Overview

Position Summary:  This position is part of a team that aims to provide guidance on career exploration and tools to uncover pathways to employment and career success. Navigator will offer or schedule instructors to teach job search skills classes and small business programs.

The navigator will serve as part of the Covington Library team, helping patrons at Public Services desks.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Navigator will assist Library patrons identifying as job seekers/career changers with accessing KCPL Career & Job Services tools, community resources and local labor market information.
  • Role includes helping patrons with gathering job history information, creating resumes, searching for jobs, preparing/practicing for interviews, assisting with LinkedIn profiles and utilizing appropriate Stream Center tools.
  • Cross trained public services desks and expected to regularly provide customer service to patrons.
  • Assist with developing and updating content for Library programs that assist job seekers/career changers and facilitate workshops as required.
  • Communicate with patrons, prospective patrons, and employers about KCPL job search resources and programs.
  • Plan, schedule, and teach entry-level Google, Microsoft plus professional level job search classes both online and in-person, plus assist with programs catering to small businesses.
  • Offer or schedule instructors to teach job search skills classes and small business programs for people looking for jobs as entrepreneurs.
  • Assist with growing the awareness of KCPL career resources and development of tools to track related statistics.
  • Assist with growing and maintaining KCPL Workforce Development community partnerships.
  • Educate Public Services staff on the availability of Career & Job Services tools and how to use them, especially Data Axle, Gale Courses, Learning Express and Jobscan.co.
  • Assist with arranging, scheduling, and tracking Employer Hiring Events and Career Fairs in building.
  • Assist, schedule and plan job fairs or hiring events, SWAT meetings, Kentucky Career Center partnership activities and library job search programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of education and relevant work experience required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Libraries and to become a Certified Workforce Development Professional.
  • Ability to work with Library staff, job seekers, employers, and small businesses in the business community.
  • Excellent customer service and community relations skills.
  • Experience planning and implementing meetings or programs.
  • Able to maintain high levels of confidentiality, credibility, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Excellent MS Office Suite, Google, Zoom, MS Teams skills. Other creative platforms like Mail Chimp, WordPress or Canva a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge of workforce development programs, services and techniques is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and means of transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and carry 10ft; must be able to push and/or pull 100 lbs.
